Ghost Stories for Christmas
Created in 2013 by producer and actor Craig Johnson's "Blind Piper Productions", the Ghost Stories for Christmas project has established itself as a regular feature of the Brighton Christmas season whilst raising funds and awareness for local charities. Over the past 8 shows we have raised over £7500 for THE CLOCKTOWER SANCTUARY, RISE, FARESHARE SUSSEX, THE SUSSEX CANCER FUND ALLSORTS YOUTH PROJECT THE ROYAL SUSSEX COUNTY HOSPITAL and THE ALZHEIMER'S SOCIETY whilst bringing a seasonal chill to our seaside home.
Inspired partly by the pre-Victorian tradition of telling Ghost Stories at Yuletide and partly by the classic BBC adaptions from the 1970s, over the years the show has developed from its initial incarnation of pure storytelling into a night where storytelling meets theatre in a dalliance with the macabre.
Previous productions have featured stories by Stephen King, Ramsey Campbell, Neil Gaiman, John Paul Fitch, Clive Barker, M.R James, Agatha Christie, Joan Aiken, E.F.Benson, Bram Stoker, Charles Dickens, Kate Mosse and Mary Wilkens Freeman; with audiences suitably disturbed by tales of Christmas wishes coming scarily true, haunted mirrors, ghostly children, cursed paintings, slippages in time, vengeance from the grave, haunted Christmas cards, mysterious wedding presents, pan-dimensional monsters, lonely spirits, a malevolent Father Christmas and murder.
Following a break in 2020 due to ill health, Ghost Stories for Christmas returns to The Lantern Theatre in December 2021
